Life in Gaza is becoming extremely difficult due to the ongoing attacks by occupying Israel. Many people eat only one meal a day due to lack of food. According to a Washington Post report, how the captive Gazans are living in poverty.
A Palestinian woman named Yasmin Eid lives in a tent in the Deir al-Balah region with her four young daughters and her husband.
Yasmin was cooking dal in a small pot by lighting a fire with a stick and scrap paper. When asked how he is doing, he said, 'My daughters suck their fingers because of hunger, and I put my hands on their backs to sleep.'
Yasmin Eid said, 'Where we are, is the center of Gaza. Relief comes here more than the northern region. But compared to demand, much less. So not everyone can eat enough.'
Israel's recent offensive in northern Gaza has caused heavy casualties, experts noted. There is a possibility of extreme famine.
Thousands of people, including Yasmin Eid's family, have taken shelter in unsanitary refugee camp tents in the Deir al-Balah region. Yasmin Eid said, 'The local bakeries were closed for five days. As of last Wednesday, just one bag of bread cost more than $13. Even if the price is high, it is all over before the new relief comes.'
The United Nations has called the Israeli war on Gaza a genocide.
A report by the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights (OHCHR) states, “Since the start of the war, Israeli officials have openly advocated policies that deprive Palestinians of the basic necessities of life—food, water, and fuel.” These statements and illegal interference with humanitarian aid indicate that Israel is using life-saving supplies for political and military gain.'
The report also states, 'As early as 2024, about 25,000 tons of explosives—the equivalent of two nuclear bombs—were dropped on Gaza. As a result, the region's water and sewage systems have collapsed, agricultural fields have been destroyed and toxic pollution has spread.'
Incidentally, on October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel for the first time. At least 1,206 Israelis were killed. Israel has been attacking Gaza ever since. As a result, the Gaza Strip has turned into a terrible wasteland.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 44,56 people, most of them women and children, have been killed in Israeli attacks so far. Several UN agencies have warned of a serious humanitarian crisis in Gaza, fearing famine due to lack of food and medicine.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's former defense minister Yoav Galante on charges of war crimes committed in Gaza last Thursday. Many see this ICC decision as a 'light of hope'.
