Independence flag bearer, JSD President AS M Abdur Rab has called upon Major MA Jalil of Bir Sipahsala, Commander of Sector No. 9 in the Armed Liberation War, to be awarded the state title for his heroic contribution in the Liberation War. He gave a statement in this regard to the media on Thursday.
In the statement, he said, Major Jalil is a fearless and brave son of this country, who without stepping on the path of individualism, made a sure, safe and bright life and contributed with unparalleled bravery by participating in the liberation war. But after independence, Major Jalil was arrested on December 31, 1971 and practically kept under house arrest due to strong protests and resistance to the smuggling of country's resources through the Khulna border.
Asam Rab said, he was the first royal prisoner of the country. He was released from captivity on September 2, 1972. Later, he assumed the responsibility of the president of the National Socialist Party, the first political party of the independent country. As an expression of his patriotism and strong nationalistic spirit, the then Awami League government did not give any recognition to Major Jalil for his contribution in the liberation war. All the Sector Commanders except the Sector Commander of Sector 9 were awarded the title of Vir Uttam.
The statement further said that not giving the gallant title to a fighting soldier like Major Dalil is a shameful example for the entire Liberation War. Major Jalil took part in the battlefield from the dawn of the War of Independence and heroically led the historic success of the Liberation War in Sector 9.
Calling for a statement, ASM Abdur Rab said, 'For 53 years, no government has taken the initiative to remove this stigma. Now, for the sake of establishing justice, the interim government formed through the mass uprising of the students, I call upon Major Jalil to show full respect to the armed liberation struggle by giving him the posthumous title of 'Bir Uttam'.
