Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad (JMM) Quader said, 'The interim government cannot ban Awami League. It should not be, if someone is guilty, he should be judged. Awami League must take part in the next election.'
He said these things at the discussion meeting organized on the occasion of Constitution Preservation Day at Banani in the capital on Saturday (December 7).
GM Quader said, 'The interim government has created national disunity in the name of national unity. They made national unity with only 18 parties. However, there are 53 registered parties of the Election Commission. 50 percent people are kept out of national unity. It has created racial misunderstandings, creating a situation of conflicting mistrust in the country.'
The Jatiya Party chairman complained, 'The Jatiya Party is not being allowed to hold peaceful meetings constitutionally. The party office was set on fire. Leaders' passports have been withheld.'
He also said, 'There is extreme self-censorship in the media. Journalists are not being allowed to work independently.'
