IndiGo, along with the civil aviation ministry, is exploring the possibility of extending the tenure of the 'wide-body' Boeing 777 aircraft leased from Turkish Airlines as the current tenure expires this week. IndiGo currently operates two Boeing 777 aircraft on 'wet-lease' for flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul.

New Delhi. Airlines, IndiGo, in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Ministry, are exploring the possibility of extending the tenure of the 'wide-body' Boeing 777 aircraft leased from Turkish Airlines as the current tenure expires this week. IndiGo currently operates two Boeing 777 aircraft on 'wet-lease' for flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul. These are the only two 'wide-body' aircraft in its fleet. IndiGo is India's largest airline with a domestic market share of more than 62 percent.

Sources related to the matter said that the company is not able to get extension of the lease period of the aircraft. When contacted, an IndiGo spokesperson told PTI on Monday that the airline is “working with the ministry to find a solution to extend the wet lease”. “Our AOG (aircraft on ground) capability constraints are improving but not completely eliminated.”

'Wet Lease' refers to the provision of the aircraft on lease along with the provision of crew, maintenance and insurance requirements. IndiGo will operate two Boeing 777 aircraft from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul till November 14. According to information available on the website 'flightradar24.com', the airline will operate A321 aircraft on these routes from November 15.
