India's contribution to the establishment of Bangladesh should be remembered for life: Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid

Shahi Imam of Delhi Jame Masjid Syed Ahmad Bukhari commented that Bangladesh government should always remember India's outstanding role in the process of establishment and development of Bangladesh. Bukhari said this while describing the close relationship between India and Bangladesh.

Indian media ANI reported this news in a report.

Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari said, 'Since the establishment of Bangladesh, our national leadership, media, civil society and influential circles Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his daughter Sheikh Hasina Wazed and their party have maintained close relations with Awami League. Bangladesh has always stood by us in various issues of diplomacy, regional affairs, international relations and the Muslim world.

After Sheikh Hasina's visit to India, Bukhari expressed concern over the internal unrest in Bangladesh. He said, 'both Muslim and non-Muslim supporters of Awami League have been victims of this unrest.' He strongly condemned the incidents of violence against Hindu minorities in particular.

Bukhari wrote, 'This is an internal matter of Bangladesh. But the ongoing injustice, attacks and unilateral action against Hindu minorities are condemnable and must be stopped immediately. There is no justification for these incidents. The Government of Bangladesh should always remember the outstanding role of India in the process of establishment and development of Bangladesh. During the liberation war, we have provided unprecedented assistance to millions of Bangladeshi refugees and we have stood by them in every natural calamity.'

He said the United Nations has a Universal Declaration on the Protection of Equal Rights of Minorities, which is binding on all members of the international community and the member states of the United Nations.
