If the proposed National Constitutional Council (NCC) is formed by the National consensus commission, the executive department will reduce the power of the executive department, which will ruin the government's balance. Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters after the second phase of the National Unity Commission with the political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday.
Salahuddin said the Commission has proposed a constitutional council with nine members to the president. There, the Prime Minister, the upper house and the lower house speakers, opposition leaders, chief justice, deputy speakers of the opposition have proposed to form the NCC. We do not agree with this idea. This is because the NCC has been asked to give many power constitutionally.
Claiming that there is no accountability of the NCC, Salahuddin said, “If there is authority, there is a power function, but there is no accountability, we cannot support any such organization as a Democratic Party.” These functions will be created by setting up another institution. '
Salahuddin said a balanced state, social system, state management system should be established within the state. We should think about what I can do to do that. If there was a caretaker government, past elections would not have happened. There may have been some objections, some mistakes. Then our caretaker government has to be fully established, alreddy. If we allow the Election Commission to function in nature, independently, legally, then through these two issues the executive department and parliament will be completely autocratic forever. '
The BNP leader said, 'The body cannot be kept active by shaving the body. If I go to establish another strong authority by weakening the executive department, I will not be able to examine it anymore. What we can do is to establish a balance of power. '
Responding to a question as to whether to fully assess the NCC, he said, “If an alternative proposal comes, we will discuss it in the party. We have to think about it again. '
Referring to the proposal of the presidential election, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The commission's proposal for the election is that the electric college will be made and there will be about 5,000 voters.” All elected representatives of the local government level will be here as voters. In the case of the presidential election, we have said that in the existing system, the members of the Jatiya Sangsad will be elected president. The majority of the members of the two parties in Parliament will be elected president. Later, if a new proposal comes through detailed discussion in the Jatiya Sangsad or it will be good for the people and the country, then it will be seen. '
