Former Election Commission (EC) Secretary and Election Commissioner Sam Zakaria has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He died on Tuesday morning at 4 am while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in the capital. He was 77 years old at the time of his death. At the time of his death, he left behind a wife, a son, and numerous well-wishers.
Director of Public Relations of EC. Shariful Alam said that his first funeral will be held today at Bad Johar Nikunj Central Jame Masjid. Later, after the second Janaza at the village house in Brahmanbaria, burial will take place in the family graveyard.
Sam Zakaria served as EC Secretary from April 1, 2002 to January 15, 2006 and Election Commissioner from January 16, 2006 to January 31, 2007.
In a condolence message on the death of Sam Zakaria, the EC and the EC Secretariat expressed deep grief and sorrow.
