Efforts underway to control prices by increasing supply: Trade Advisor


The government is trying to control the prices of daily commodities by increasing the supply to the market by importing products with supervision at the field level, said Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin.

He said this at the opening ceremony of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) potato sale program on mobile trucks at Kawran Bazar in the capital on Wednesday (November 20).

Inflation in the market is largely supply-driven, the adviser said. In consultation with various stakeholders, import duty on various products has been reduced significantly to facilitate supply. And we are working to bring a stability in the price by accepting the revenue loss of thousands of crores of rupees. Potato prices have indeed gone to an unbearable level. We have all taken initiatives together. Some of the products have started to get relief due to our action.

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will sell potatoes at subsidized prices through truck sales at 50 locations in Dhaka city. You can buy three kg of potatoes per person. The price of potato per kg will be 40 rupees. Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin inaugurated this program from Caravan Bazar TCB building at 9:30 am on Wednesday (November 20).

In order to give relief to the consumers, the sale of potatoes in trucks has been started through Bharturki, the trade adviser said, and said that this activity will continue until the situation becomes normal. Scope will be extended if necessary.

According to TCB, under the overall guidance of the Ministry, the sale of TCB products (edible oil and pulses) at affordable prices is ongoing among one crore beneficiary card holder families of low income. In addition to that activity, TCB products oil, pulses and rice supplied by food department are being sold to common consumers through 50 trucks in Dhaka city and 20 trucks in Chittagong city.

Along with this program, potatoes will also be sold for consumers in Dhaka city from Wednesday. Besides, edible oil can be bought at Tk 100 per liter, lentils at Tk 60 per kg and rice at Tk 30 per kg. A person can buy a maximum of two liters of oil, two kg of lentils and five kg of rice.
