According to the Hebrew group Tasnim News AgencyIn a report on this matter, Ma’ariv newspaper, citing research conducted by the Jewish People’s Policy Institute (JPPI), stated that the European Union’s position towards Israel changed after October 7 (Operation Al-Aqsa Storm) in such a way that negative statements against Israel increased by about 60 percent, and half of them want a two-state solution.
According to this report, after analyzing tens of thousands of press and official statements issued by European Union institutions for almost a decade, the following points have been determined:
Negative comments about Israel have increased by almost 60% since October 7, 2023; More than half of the European statements and statements refer to the two-state solution.
The study of this institute, which examined tens of thousands of official statements issued by the European Union and its institutions between 2017 and 2026, shows a sharp and obvious deterioration in the statements and discourse of the European Union towards Israel since the October 7 attack and the Gaza war (which took place in the shadow of the massive and inhumane crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and other parts of the region).
The study, which relied on a computer analysis of more than 24,000 press and official statements issued by the European External Action Service – the diplomatic service of the EU and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defense – compared the position of the EU over the period in question to other states, including Iran, China, Turkey, Qatar and the occupation regime of Al-Quds.
Of all press releases and official statements, 3,584 were selected and analyzed, of which 895 directly addressed Israel.
For this study, which was conducted by expert analysts and researchers at the institute using advanced tools, an artificial intelligence-based sentiment analysis was conducted.
This analysis examined whether media announcements and official statements about different countries were expressed in a positive, neutral, or negative tone.
The results show that 38 percent of monitored messages and statements about Israel over nearly a decade were classified as negative, while 49 percent were neutral and only 13 percent were positive.
As mentioned, this is the general picture of the analysis of all the statements. However, when analyzing the statements on an annual basis, after the events of October 7th, we see a sharp and worsening change in attitudes towards Israel.
Since then, the sentiment index has seen a sharp and steady decline, reflecting a clear hardening and worsening of the tone of European discourse towards Israel. to indicate the deterioration of Israel’s position after October 7.
Negative messages and comments toward Israel were at 29 percent before October 7, and rose to nearly 46 percent afterward—an increase of nearly 60 percent.
In contrast, positive statements were 20 percent before October 7, but dropped to just 8 percent after October 7. Neutral statements also decreased from 51% to 46%.
