Deputy leader of the opposition in the National Parliament and Jamaat’s central deputy Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said his ‘rank is higher than ministers.’ He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the Eid reunion and public reception organized by Chouddagram Upazila Jamaat today.
Taher said, ‘BNP got 10 percent more votes than us in the 13th National Assembly Election. Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats alone and 77 seats in alliance. We hope that Jamaat-e-Islami will come to power in the future.
Taher also said, ‘I am not just an MP, I am a minister. I have the national flag on my car, if the ministers in the national parliament speak once a month during the session. I can speak two or three times a day during the session. Therefore, my rank is higher than the ministers.’
About the development in his constituency, he said, ‘The BNP here is demanding (of Chouddagram), all the development of this area will be in their hands. I would like to say to them, during the interim government, I have allocated Tk 120 crore for infrastructure development in this area. Only three months have passed since the election. In the meantime, I have brought another allocation of 100 crore rupees for the development of the area.
Taher questioned and said, ‘Only three months of the government have passed. If the BNP survives in power for five years, will it survive?’ To Taher’s question, the leaders and activists in the audience said that it will not last. At that time he said, ‘But I didn’t say anything. We want them (BNP) to remain in power. If they are in power, this allocation will increase several times.’
Taher also said, ‘The fundamental problem of Chouddagram is juvenile gangs and drug dealing. There will be no place for these two in these fourteen villages. I gave the youth gangs and drug dealers six months—you find another business. Otherwise, if you are still on this road after six months, then it will be understood that you are on this road on purpose. The number of teenage gangs and drug dealers is more, or the number of good people is more? Of course there are more good people. Will you leave the house to catch teenage gangs and drug dealers? If you get out, crime will decrease from the society. Under my leadership, the anti-drug and anti-juvenile gang operations will be conducted. They are no longer exempt.’
