Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Basad General Secretary Comrade Bazlur Rashid Feroze in a statement given to the newspaper called for reconsideration of the High Court's ban on battery rickshaws in Dhaka city and the implementation of the Supreme Court's order in view of a petition by pedal rickshaw owners.
In a statement on Friday (November 22), Feroze said that there are currently around 7.8 lakh battery-powered rickshaws and easy bikes plying in Dhaka city. If this transport is stopped, about 1.5 lakh people will become unemployed in one blow. In this market of high commodity prices, the livelihood of drivers and millions of people who depend on them will be threatened. As a result, instead of going to such a decision to make so many people unemployed, instead of repression and torture, he called for an immediate solution to this problem by sitting down and discussing with the activists including Sangram Parishad.
In the statement, he said, if the vehicles of ordinary people are stopped outside the main roads of Dhaka city, the city life will be complicated. He urged not to use the court to destroy the livelihood of the workers and not to make the workers adversaries. He also called for a permanent solution to this problem by finalizing and modernizing the policy of eco-friendly, cost-effective, noise-free vehicles, registering battery-powered vehicles, issuing drivers' licenses and route permits, and researching how many vehicles can run.
