The government has approved the food ministry's proposal to import rice from India to increase the country's food supply. 50 thousand metric tons of non-basmati parboiled rice will come from India through open tender. The total expenditure of the government for this will be 282 crore 96 lakh taka.
On Thursday (November 21), Finance Advisor Dr. This approval was given in the meeting of the advisory council committee on government procurement held under the chairmanship of Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to the sources of the meeting, the Indian company Messrs. SAIL Agri Commodities Limited will supply this rice. The 'Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs' approved the import of five lakh metric tonnes of rice from international sources for state emergency needs and public interest in the financial year 2024-25.
It is known that 2 crore 35 lakh 80 thousand dollars will be spent to buy 50 thousand tons of rice at 471.60 US dollars per metric ton. In Bangladeshi currency the amount is 282 crore 96 lakh taka. The purchase price of rice per kg will be 56 taka 59 paisa.
