The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance got an overwhelming majority in the Maharashtra elections. Once again, after Mahayuti came to power, Congress's sorrow has spread. He said on Sunday that the party and other allies of Maha Vikas Aghadi will collectively introspect on the reasons for the defeat.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance on Saturday won 230 of the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra and the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi got just 46 seats. On this, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the results of the assembly elections in Maharashtra are shocking and unbelievable.
'We are unable to understand what happened'
He told a TV channel, 'We are unable to understand what happened. This was not just the defeat of the Congress Party, but the defeat of the entire Maha Vikas Aghadi. First we have to clearly understand what has happened. After the defeat of Maharashtra and Haryana, we are feeling surprised at the entire election process.
Defeat is failure of all of us: Venugopal
Asked whether the grand old party suspected any foul play in the Maharashtra election results, he said they were not making such allegations so soon after the defeat. He said, 'We have suffered a huge blow in the stronghold of Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Congress. This is a failure not only of the Congress party but of the entire alliance. Therefore, we will sit together and collectively introspect the reasons for this.
Who got how many seats?
The Election Commission announced that BJP won 132 seats, Shiv Sena won 57, while Ajit Pawar-led NCP won 41 seats. While in the MVA, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) candidates won 10 seats, Congress won 16, while Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) won 20 seats.
Said this on Priyanka's victory
When asked about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's landslide victory in Wayanad, the Congress General Secretary said that it is the result of the efforts of party leaders and workers. He said, 'The party was expecting such a huge majority in Wayanad. Immediately after the voting, huge concerns were being raised about the majority. But after the party's internal assessment, we were confident that the low voting percentage would not affect Priyanka's majority.
She also clarified that the Wayanad tragedy and its aftermath will be one of the issues that Priyanka will raise in the Lok Sabha. Rejecting the opposition's repeated campaign of not visiting Wayanad, Venugopal said she would prove them wrong with her actions. He also said that along with being the MP from Wayanad, Priyanka will also continue her intervention in North Indian politics.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by-election on Saturday by a margin of more than four lakh votes, leaving behind her brother Rahul Gandhi's victory margin in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
