New investment in the export -oriented garment industry is also coming up in the unrest and economic uncertainty. According to BGMEA sources, the owners of the garment industry, their new members have been new members in the six months from January to March this year. However, in this fifteen months, five factories have been closed again. The number of unemployed is still 22,000 after the addition of employment. Although this is a normal process, many in the garment sector.
A total of 5,000 people have been employed in the new 120 factories. And 5 thousand 5 workers lost work due to the closure of the factories.
According to BGMEA data, 1 out of 5 (5 percent) closed from August to March last year. However, many ready -made garment traders have expressed optimism about the overall situation. They say new investments are being made to increase the production capacity of some old factories. It is expected that something good will happen in the days ahead. And the factory is an ongoing process of turning and closing. This is seen in all kinds of industrial sectors.
Former BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel said, “After the political change, some factories have closed. Apart from this, small companies are not able to survive due to the increase in business costs and various surroundings. Many factories have also been closed. '
At the same time, Mohiuddin Rubel said there are the opposite image, adding that many large and medium factories are increasing production capacity. They are investing in modern technology with artificial intelligence (AI). The new factory is also coming. The export of clothing made on the total is increasing.
According to the Export Development Bureau (EPB) data, a total of $ 1,220 million clothing has been exported in July-March in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2021-27. This export figure is 5.7 percent higher than the same period of the fiscal year 2021-27.
The recently closed garment factories include 20 of Beximco Group, 3 of the Kia Group, 3 of the TNZ and Vergo MH, Modish Atire, Sirok Apparel, Odish Craft, etc. However, the 20 factories of the Beximco group were shown but some of them were actually non -existent. The Beximco Industrial Park factories were closed on February 23 last. The number of workers and employees of these organizations is about 3,000.
Among the new factories who have taken BGMEA membership in the last 6 months are AKH outware, AZD composite, Nexton, LSA Apparels, Setch Fashion, Supreme Outfit, Sparrow Greentek, etc. Of the new 120 factories, only 5 workers are more than 3,000. This means that most of them are small and medium factories. Among these, AZ Composite started experimental production in Gazipur last year.
At present, the company has 5 workers. However, if the production starts in full swing, there will be employment of 3-5 workers.
Former Vice -President of BGMEA, the organization of the garment industry, Mahmud Hassan Khan, believes that some factories are closed and the new factory is a normal and ongoing process in the new factory. According to him, US President Donald Trump imposes counter -tariff on foreign goods. Until this uncertainty is overcome, entrepreneurs are in awe of new investments.
