Canadian New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has announced the resignation of the post of party chief due to a very poor performance in the results of the Canadian parliamentary elections. Under the leadership of Jagmeet Singh, the NDP was reduced to only seven seats – which is much lower than the 12 seats required to get an official party status in the House of Commons.

Not only this, 46 -year -old Singh, who lost his seat to Bernabi Central, after the new delimitation, confirmed that as soon as an interim leader would be appointed, he would step down. Singh, who became the first ethnic minority politician to lead a major federal party, was contesting his third federal election. He was first elected in Parliament in 2019 and was the leader of NDP since 2017.

During his tenure, he played the role of power balance, where his party supported former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's minority Liberal government for four years. This election proved very difficult for him. The NDP got only two percent national votes and the party was reduced from 24 seats to only seven seats – out of 343 seats.

Loses badly in his own seat, finished third

Singh Bernabi finished third in Central, which was earlier Banabi South and had a seat since 2019. In a post on X (East Twitter), he wrote, “I am disappointed that we could not win much seats. But I am not disappointed with my movement. I hope from my party. I know that we will always choose hope on fear.”

He further said, “But we lose only when we believe those who say that we can never dream of a better Canada.”
