Cafe charged 5% gas-crisis charge on lemonade: Charged ₹17 extra on bill of ₹358; Users said- Which gas is used to make it?

Amidst the ongoing LPG crisis across the country, a cafe in Bengaluru imposed 5% ‘Gas Crisis Charge’ on its customer’s lemonade bill. After the photo of the cafe’s receipt went viral on social media platform X, people are giving different types of reactions to it. According to this viral receipt from Bengaluru’s ‘Theo Cafe’, a customer had ordered two mint lemonades. The price of one lemonade was ₹179, which means ₹358 for two. The cafe first gave a 5% discount of ₹17.90, but then added 5% i.e. ₹17.01 separately in the name of ‘Gas Crisis Charge’ along with the standard GST (CGST and SGST). In this way the total bill of the customer became ₹ 374. People said on social media – ‘What is the charge without gas?’ As soon as Bill’s photo was shared on X, users criticized the cafe. People asked the question that which gas is used in making lemonade, for which ‘crisis fee’ is being charged? Some users called it a new excuse to rob customers, while some called it ‘the digital embodiment of inflation’. Supply of commercial LPG cylinders started. The government has lifted the ban on commercial LPG cylinders. The Petroleum Ministry had said on Saturday that distribution of commercial cylinders has been started in 29 states and union territories of the country. The government had banned the supply of commercial cylinders on March 9. Amidst the war, the first Indian ship carrying LPG has reached India. Amidst the ongoing war between America, Israel and Iran, the LPG carrier ship Shivalik has reached India carrying gas from Qatar. The ship reached Mundra Port in Gujarat at 5 pm on Monday evening. About 46 thousand metric tons of LPG is loaded on the Shivalik ship, which is said to be equivalent to approximately 32.4 lakh domestic gas cylinders. This ship crossed the Strait of Hormuz on March 14 and headed towards India. This is the first LPG ship to reach India amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to the Shipping Ministry, a ship named Nanda Devi is also coming to India carrying about 46 thousand tonnes of LPG and is likely to reach tomorrow. The Jag Ladki ship is coming towards India carrying about 81 thousand tonnes of Murban crude oil and it is also expected to reach Mundra port tomorrow. Those with PNG connection will not get LPG cylinder. If you have a piped natural gas (PNG) connection in your house, then now you will have to surrender your LPG cylinder. Amidst the deepening gas crisis in the country, the Petroleum Ministry has made major changes in the supply rules. According to the new order, PNG users will neither get a new LPG connection nor will the old cylinder be refilled. If the connection is changed three times, legal action can be taken. The new rules have come into effect with immediate effect. The government wants those who have the option of PNG to give up the cylinder so that the cylinder can reach those who have no other option. In the notification issued on Saturday, it was said that those who have both the connections should immediately go to the nearest LPG distributor or company’s portal and surrender the connection.
