Stephen Moore, the senior economic adviser to the newly elected US President Donald Trump, believes that Britain should accelerate trade with the United States without closer relations with the European Union. He said this in an interview given to BBC Radio on Friday (November 15). British news agency Reuters reported this news in a report.
Speaking to BBC Radio, Stephen Moore said the EU has a 'socialist model'. But he advised the country to work on closer ties with the US. He said that if the British government prioritizes economic relations with the EU over the United States, the United States will be less interested in entering into a free trade agreement with Britain.
Moore said, 'The UK is sort of caught between these two forms of economic model and I think it would be better for Britain to move towards the American model of economic freedom. And if it does, it will further boost the Trump administration's willingness to strike a free trade deal with the UK.'
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey called on Britain's new Labor government to renegotiate its relationship with the EU on Thursday.
But the British government has ruled out rejoining the EU's single market or customs union, although Prime Minister Keir Starmer wants to improve trade and diplomatic ties with the bloc.
At the same event, just before Bailey, British finance minister Rachel Reeves said Britain needed to 'reset' its relationship with the EU. At this time, he also said that he is looking forward to working closely with Trump to strengthen trade relations.
