Bride goes missing after boat sinks in Karnaphuli, 5 rescued

A boat has sunk in the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong’s Rangunia due to stormy winds. A bride named Kanika Das (20) is missing in this incident. Five more people were rescued. They have been admitted to hospital.

The accident took place on Wednesday (May 27) at around 11:30 am in the Karnaphuli river near Chandraghona Dewanjir Hat and Kodala Ghat of the upazila.

Missing Kanika Das is the wife of Rubel Das, a resident of Jelepara in Kodala Union. She is the daughter of Dulal Das of Mrinalpara area of ​​Kadmatoli union in Chandraghona.

The rescued persons are – Poly Das (25), Rupan Ghosh (30), Raj Ghosh (2), Anil Ghosh (6) and Rubel Das (29).

According to local sources, the newlyweds were going to Mrinalpara in Kadamtali, Chandraghona by boat with Kanika and other members of the Rubel family from Jelepara in Kodala Union. On the way, the boat capsized due to strong winds in Karnaphuli river.

Later local people rescued five people and admitted them to Chandraghona Christian Mission Hospital.

The hospital authorities said that the condition of child Raj Ghosh is critical among those under treatment. Others were given first aid.

Arjun Barai, officer in charge of Rangunia and Boalkhali Fire Service, said that a special diving team has arrived from Agrabad and is conducting a search to rescue the missing person. He was not found till evening.
