Bangladesh Bank's new rules on defaulted loans, anger of businessmen in BGMEA meeting


Businessmen have expressed their anger against the new rules issued by Bangladesh Bank regarding defaulted loans as anti-private sector measures. They said that investment will be disrupted, employment will be affected. All in all, the macroeconomic stability of the country will be affected.

They said these things in a discussion meeting of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) with leaders of various trade organizations regarding the country's trade situation and industrial safety. At the same time, they demanded to strengthen the security of the factory.

Business leaders said the garment sector could face a major blow if the new default loan policy comes into effect from April. Business leaders agreed to conduct a sector-by-sector study to assess the impact of the new policy on industries.

The meeting discussed the safety of all industrial sectors including the garment industry. Citing the attack on DMD of Mahmud Jeans factory in particular, the leaders said, it has created deep anxiety in the overall industrial sector of the country. If such incidents repeat, the entrepreneurs will be discouraged from running the factories. At the same time, the country's trade and investment will be at risk, which is not desirable.
