The average price of rice sold at supermarkets across the country during the week ending March 15 was 3,980 yen including tax per 5 kilograms, falling for the fifth consecutive week. This is the first time since August last year that the price has been in the 3,000 yen range, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries believes that this is because wholesalers are shipping at lower prices in an attempt to reduce inventory.
