Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman called for peaceful coexistence to build a country of harmony. He said, the army is always ready to take all the necessary activities with the aim of peacefully celebrating the respective festivals of each religion while maintaining communal harmony.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the International Buddhist Vihara located in the Capital's Merul Badda on Friday at the 'Shubh Thak Chibardan and National Buddhist Mahasammelan-2024'. The conference was organized by Bangladesh Buddhist Federation.

Chief of Army Staff Waqar-uz-Zaman requested the hilly and Bengalis living in the hilly areas to work hard to create a beautiful environment by promoting peace and harmony in the hilly districts. Apart from this, he highlighted the need to preserve the local language, culture and biodiversity along with the development of tourism industry in the mountainous districts. He expressed hope that if more schools, colleges and universities are established in the hill districts, the local students will be able to spread their skills in the country and abroad.
According to the notification, the Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army presented a check of one crore rupees as a donation on behalf of Bangladesh Army in favor of Bangladesh Buddhist Federation. This year, 266 Buddhist monasteries across the country including the Chittagong Hill Tracts have celebrated auspicious Chibardan with due religious solemnity.
