Arab Finance – Egypt and Norway strengthens cooperation in renewable energy by signing an agreement to establish a solar power station in Naga Hammadi


Arab Finance: Engineer Mohamed Shimi, Minister of Public Business Sector, received Ambassador Hilda Clemetzmal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Cairo, and the accompanying delegation, in the context of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy.

An agreement was signed between Egypt Aluminum Company, which is affiliated with the Holding Company for Metal Industries, and a company affiliated with the Foundation.Skatak “NorwegianTo launch a 1000 -megawatled solar power plant project to feed the aluminum complex in Nag Hammadi.

The project is implemented in two phases, each stage with a capacity of 500 megawatts/hour, in addition to installing 200 megawatts storage batteries. The volume of investments is estimated at 650 million dollars, which is borne by the Norwegian company “Skatak” according to the PPA.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the historical relations between Egypt and Norway, stressing the importance of cooperation in the areas of green transformation and clean energy.

He pointed out that the project represents a qualitative shift in the Egyptian aluminum industry, and contributes to reducing operational costs, raising productive efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions, which enhances the ability of the Egyptian product to compete in global markets.

For its part, the Norwegian Ambassador emphasized the depth of relations between the two countries, and indicated that this project is a fruitful example of cooperation in the fields of renewable energy.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Mahmoud Ajour, Managing Director of Egypt Aluminum Company, and Mr. Mohamed Amer, Vice President of Skatak Company for the Middle East and Africa, in the presence of a number of government officials.
