After 36 years of living in Kuwait as a citizen, the fraud was caught

A Sudanese man has been fraudulently living as a Kuwaiti citizen for 36 years. He was recently caught for dual citizenship fraud. Kuwait is taking action against him for obtaining citizenship benefits through fraud.

Al-Majlis news portal reported this information to Gulf News.

The expatriate has been sent to public prosecution by the Kuwaiti police. The man claims that he took citizenship in exchange of money from a Kuwaiti woman in 1988. He claimed to be a adopted child and said the woman wanted to adopt him. He also said that the woman is not alive now.

Now Kuwait is taking measures to cancel the citizenship of that person and his child.

Several cases of obtaining Kuwaiti citizenship through fraud and forgery have recently surfaced in the country's media. Some of them illegal citizens have already been punished by the courts.

A Kuwaiti court has sentenced three people to 10 years in prison for forging citizenship documents and taking 500,000 Kuwaiti dinars, or $1.6 million, from government salaries and benefits.

According to a report published last week in the country's newspaper Al-Qabas, the court ordered the accused to return one million Kuwaiti dinars to the state treasury.

Most of the country's population of 40,000,000 is expatriate. Currently, the country is taking strict action against forgery of citizenship documents and dual citizenship.

Kuwait's Ministry of Interior has launched a hotline for the general public to report information on people holding dual citizenship or obtaining citizenship through fraud. The Ministry has promised that the privacy of the complainants will be protected.
