Abul Kalam, managing director of Chaiti Group, will be the panel leader of the combined council in the upcoming elections of the garment owners' association BGMEA.
Kalam currently serves as the Director of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and earlier BGMEA for the term 2012-13. Besides, he served as the president of Uttara Club during the period 2011-12 and 2012-13.
On Thursday (November 28) in a function at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital, the former presidents of Samilit Parishad introduced Abul Kalam to the industrial owners.
BGMEA former president SM Fazlul Haque, Redwan Ahmed, Kazi Moniruzzaman, Mostafa Golam Quddus, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam spoke on the occasion. Among others, BTMA President Shaukat Aziz Russell spoke.
Business leaders said Kalam's leadership will help the garment sector meet the challenges ahead and achieve new heights in export earnings.
On October 20, the Ministry of Commerce dissolved the BGMEA Board of Directors and appointed administrators to hold elections within 120 days.
