French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Serre-Charlotte paid a courtesy call on Jatiya Sangsad opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman. This meeting was held at the office of the opposition leader of the National Parliament on Thursday.
According to the press release sent by Jamaat, in the meeting, the ongoing political situation after the elections in Bangladesh, the sustainability of democratic and constitutional institutions, the human rights situation, mutual relations between Bangladesh and France and commercial and economic cooperation were openly discussed.
Apart from this, the meeting also discussed about the responsible role of all concerned in the eradication of corruption and establishment of rule of law to attract foreign investment. Shafiqur Rahman praised France’s long-standing diplomatic relations with Bangladesh and called upon France to continue its cooperation in the overall development of Bangladesh. Hope was also expressed in the meeting that the existing friendly relations between the two countries will be accelerated in the future.
The meeting was also attended by Political Attaché of the French Embassy, Emily Palawan, Jamaat Amir’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Barrister Mir Ahmad bin Kasem Arman.
