The new list of events to be broadcast unencrypted
What today represents a choice made by Warner Bros Discovery will soon be an obligation. Mimit has recently revisited the list of events of national importance that must remain accessible free-to-air, even when the rights have ended up in the portfolio of operators or paid platforms. The list was from 2012 and has been revised.
Finally, the Agcom Council, in the meeting of 29 April, closed the circle by approving – with Commissioner Elisa Giomi voting against – the provision that regulates the methods of transmission events considered to be of particular relevance for society.
Obligations after the expiration of current contracts
Enter the summer and winter Paralympics, the Conference League when Italian teams are involved, the Italian Cup final, the League Super Cup. Tennis becomes sensitive terrain: semi-finals and finals of the United Cup with Italy, Slam, ATP and WTA Finals, Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 when Italian athletes are present. Also included are the Italian stages of the Tour de France. However, all this only for new contracts. The obligation therefore comes into force upon expiry of the contracts in force. In this case, regarding the rights of Roland Garros in the belly of Warner Bros Discovery, after 2030.
