Sheikh Mujib did not keep 72 constitution in place, you are a new lover: Jamaat Amir

Noting that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and President Ziaur Rahman reformed the constitution, Amir Shafiqur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami asked the government, ‘Have you become more lovers of the 72 constitution than them?’

He asked this question in the speech of the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized at the National Press Club auditorium on Wednesday. Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch of Jamaat organized this discussion meeting on the occasion of Independence Day.

Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘Some say that the constitution of 72 cannot be changed. I ask, did the constitution of 72 protect Sheikh Mujib? 72 in the constitution was Bakshal? Is multi-party democracy prohibited in the constitution of 72? That Sheikh Mujib himself did not put the constitution of 72 in place, where did you come from new lover? Mr. Ziaur Rahman did not change this constitution?’

The opposition leader also questioned, ‘Didn’t the late leader MK Anwar say during a discussion at the national press club that we will throw away this constitution if the people’s government is established? Did the late former prime minister BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia not say – this constitution will not exist if the people’s government is established? So did you become more lovers of the Constitution of 72 than them?’

Addressing the government, Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘You will accept one part of the constitution and not another part, heavy fun! Two polls were held on the same day based on one order. You like meat, but refuse to eat broth. The same curry, cooked in the same vessel. He ate the meat and said, the broth is haram, the meat is cooked inside the broth, then how is the meat halal? That too is forbidden.’

Shafiqur Rahman said that the session will be held again on 29th, “We have been told to give notice to discuss about reforms. We would like to take this opportunity to announce, without waiting for the notice, immediately after the sitting of the session that we will implement it exactly as we signed it. Let us now discuss the implementation process in the parliament. We are ready, ready with openness. But we do not accept any kind of delay or hesitation about this. If it is resolved in the Parliament, Alhamdulillah, otherwise this highway is our address.’

Recently, Jamaat Amir said about the energy crisis, ‘The whole world is unstable due to war, at least the economy of many countries has collapsed. Many countries are suffering from lack of energy. Of course, we are very rich in energy, because, as our minister said, we lack nothing. Due to lack of this, there are now rows of cars in front of each pump for several kilometers. If there is no shortage, why such a long line?’

In the discussion meeting, Chairman of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Colonel (retd.) Oli Ahmed said, ‘I will say to the honorable Prime Minister, your father became famous all over the world by declaring independence, your mother became famous by introducing parliamentary democracy. So, you also become famous by making reforms. Write your name on the pages of history.’

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Ghulam Parwar said, ‘If you count the votes of BNP in the whole country, you may have got three crore votes. But the referendum that has been given to implement the July Charter, is more than four crores. More than 40 million votes voted in favor of the July charter in the referendum. As a result, if you calculate the public opinion and the referendum in favor of the July Charter, then the people have expressed the highest intention in favor of the July Charter than what they have expressed towards you. According to the constitution of Bangladesh, the will of the people is the power. Then three crore public opinion is defeated by four crore public opinion. You have to obey the July Charter.’
