New York Times: Israel’s plan to incite rebellion in Iran failed

According to the international group Tasnim News AgencyIn a report published on Sunday, the New York Times newspaper wrote that on the eve of war with Iran, Israel had presented a plan to provoke an internal rebellion in this country, but this goal has not been achieved so far.

According to this report, which was prepared by quoting current and former American and Israeli intelligence officials, Mossad chief David Barnea presented a plan to Benjamin Netanyahu in mid-January 2026 and then shared it with senior officials of Donald Trump’s administration in Washington.

In this plan, it was claimed that the Mossad could mobilize the Iranian opposition within a few days after the start of the war, spread unrest, and even provide the basis for the collapse of the Iranian government. The plan also included the assassination of Iranian leaders at the beginning of the conflict and the implementation of intelligence operations to encourage regime change.

According to the New York Times, Netanyahu accepted this plan and Trump also had a positive view of it. In his speech at the beginning of the war, he addressed the people of Iran and said: “Take over your government; This government belongs to you.”

At the same time, some senior American officials and a number of Israeli intelligence officials doubted the practicality of this plan.

Now, three weeks after the start of the war, according to the New York Times, there are no signs of a widespread rebellion in Iran. American and Israeli intelligence assessments show that the Iranian regime is still standing.

This report adds that Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his disappointment in domestic circles that the Mossad’s promises have not been fulfilled, and hopes for a quick end to the war by inciting internal unrest in Iran have not been realized.
