Appointment of Administrators in 42 Zilla Parishads is the primary step in another election: Jamaat

Jamaat-e-Islami protested the government’s appointment of ‘party people’ as administrators in 42 district councils. The party’s general secretary Mia Ghulam Parwar termed the government’s move as ‘part of a deep conspiracy’ to postpone the local government elections and at the same time ‘a preliminary step to another rigged election’.

Mia Golam Parwar responded in a statement sent to the media on Sunday night.

In a statement, Jamaat Secretary General said, ‘Today, on March 15, 2026, the Ministry of Local Government has appointed party members as administrators in 42 district councils of the country through a notification. The people of the country think that the newly formed BNP government took a position against the will of the people in the beginning through this decision.

Parwar commented that the basic foundation of democracy is that the local government is run by representatives elected by the people. He also commented that the government is “skillfully” ignoring the democratic process and appointing administrators one after another to take the local government under “partisan and bureaucratic control”.

Mia Golam Parwar termed this decision as a direct blow to people’s right to vote and representative governance. He also said, ‘Instead of reflecting the opinion of the people through elections, the tendency to keep power axed through appointment-based system is a deep omen for democracy.’

Secretary General of Jamaat also said, ‘This move of the government in the name of strengthening the local government is actually another attempt to weaken democracy. This undemocratic decision to appoint administrators ignoring the votes and opinions of the people will severely damage the democratic process and political culture of the country. We think this decision will be a boomerang for the government.

Mia Golam Parwar mentioned that the Thirteenth National Parliament Election and Referendum was held as the first step to advance the necessary reforms as per the desire of the July Revolution. As the next step, people’s representatives will be elected in the local governments in a democratic manner – he commented that it was the expectation of the people. Parwar also said that positive indications were being received from the Election Commission regarding the local government elections.

He also said, ‘In such a situation, the government has taken a stand against the people’s wishes by appointing government party officials as administrators in the country’s 42 district councils. It is highly morally reprehensible and amounts to a blatant deception of the public. This has raised deep suspicions in the public mind that this move by the government is part of a deeper conspiracy to postpone the local government elections and at the same time is a preliminary step to another bogus election.

The Secretary General of Jamaat immediately canceled this ‘undemocratic decision’ and strongly demanded the government to hand over the responsibility to the people’s elected representatives through free, fair and impartial elections in the Zilla Parishad.
