Reactions within Iran to today’s attacks by the US and Israel were multifaceted; Scenes of panic and fear have been captured in some places, while in some places there have been expressions of joy at the prospect of the fall of the government.
As the attack began, videos circulated on social media showing people running in panic near the blast site; Screams and cries were heard behind.
On the other hand, there has been a sense of relief among those who believe that regime change is only possible through military intervention—and even hints of joy and celebration.
Many Iranians were anticipating a possible US attack, but their reaction was highly mixed.
“If I die, don’t forget that we are too — we who oppose any military attack, we who will only become casualty statistics,” one Iranian wrote on social media.
Another wrote, “Destroy the Islamic dictatorship that caused this war. We have already gone through three wars.”
Many Iranians, who experienced one of the bloodiest civilian crackdowns in modern history last January, now say they welcome regime change — even if it comes through military intervention and assassinations of top officials.
On the other hand, some are concerned that airstrikes alone may not oust the government and warn that if it survives it could become more brutal towards its citizens.
