The Liberation War of 1971 is the foundation of the Bangladesh state. Excluding the liberation war, Bangladesh does not exist. As a result, acting chairman of BNP, Tarek Rahman, said that the desire of mass uprising of 90s and 24s should be kept in mind.
Tariq Rahman expressed this opinion in a meeting with the alliance of left parties at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday morning. After the meeting, BAS general secretary Bazlur Rashid Feroze told reporters, ‘Tareek Rahman said that since he returned to the country on December 25, the liberation war of 1971 is the foundation of our state. Excluding the liberation war, Bangladesh does not exist.
In the meeting, the current political situation of the country, law and order and economic situation, upcoming parliamentary elections, rise of extremist and communal forces were discussed in the meeting.
After the meeting, General Secretary Bazlur Rashid Feroze told reporters, ‘Mainly we have gone to this meeting to express our condolences to Khaleda Zia’s death as her son Tariq Rahman and the bereaved family and team. After a long stay outside the country, he returned home and faced the grief of bereavement; Our intention was to express our sympathy and condolences in this time of bereavement.’
Regarding what was discussed in the meeting, Bazlur Rashid said that the overall political situation of Bangladesh, the law and order situation and the upcoming elections were also discussed. Especially the rise of fundamentalist and communal forces in the country were also discussed.
Expressing Tarek Rahman’s opinion regarding the Great Liberation War, Rashid Feroz of Bajlur said, ‘Tareek Rahman has said that since his return to the country on December 25, the liberation war of 1971 is the foundation of our state. Excluding the liberation war, Bangladesh does not exist. That’s why we have to move forward with the aspirations of the 1990s mass uprising and the 24th mass uprising.
In the meeting, Tariq Rahman said that there will be people of all opinions and beliefs in the country. Bazlur Rashid said in this regard, ‘Tareek Rahman said that in this country there will be believers, non-believers, skeptics and we have to move forward with all of them. They have plans to build a liberal, democratic and welfare state. To ensure people’s facilities, not only plan, but also want to go towards implementation.’
Bazlur Rashid also said, ‘He (Tareq Rahman) said, there will be opposition parties in the country, there will be differences of opinion. We may have different opinions on many issues, that is normal. But on people’s questions, there will be mutual exchange of views on important issues of the country. He spoke of building a harmonious political environment.’
Bazlur Rashid said, “We have said that it is necessary to build a political culture in the country, where there will be political tolerance, absolute tolerance and philosophical tolerance, which are prerequisites for democracy.” We have also highlighted the need for a fair and democratic electoral process.
Rashid Firoz of Bajlur said, “We have insisted that the forces opposing the liberation war of 1971 and anti-independence should not be able to raise their heads in the politics of Bangladesh.”
