China's technology giant Huawei Technologies is set to start producing its own advanced artificial intelligence (AI) Chip 1C from next month in the United States' strict export sanctions. Two sources told Reuters this information. Sources say the shipment of some chips has already been sent to the customers.
Huawei's announcement is very timely for China's AI companies soon after the United States issued a new export ban on Nvidia's strong AI chip. Until now, the Nvidia H2 chip was allowed to be sold freely in the Chinese market, which was the main chip for China's AI companies. But this month, US President Donald Trump's administration has informed Nvidia that the H20 chip will be needed for export licenses from now on.
A source is aware of the design of the two sources and chips, the Architectural Evolution is higher than the technical innovation in Huawei's 4C chip. They say a chip that combines two 3B processors in a package using advanced integration techniques, which will give the Nvidia H1 chip performance.
This means that the computing capacity of the 4C chip and the memory capacity of 1B is double. In addition, there is some growing improvement in which the support for various AI workload data is significant.
However, none of these sources were approved to speak to the media and they did not agree to reveal themselves. Huawei 3C chip did not agree to comment on the shipment plan and its capacity-related discussion.
Washington Nvidia's flagship B20 has disconnected China from the most advanced AI products to restrict China's technical development, especially the military sector progress. For example, the US authorities banned its sale in China before the H1 chip came to market in 2022.
As a result, Huawei and other Chinese GPU startup companies (such as Mooore Threads, Iluvatar Corex) who are mainly trying to become a market partner in the NVIDIA are now getting the chance.
Paul Trialo, a partner of the consulting firm Albright Stonebridge Group, said that the latest export ban on the US Commerce Department on NVEDIA H2 Chip means that Huawei's ACC GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) will become the “Graphics Processing Unit) AI model developer and infertility power.”
Sources said that at the end of last year, Huawei distributed 5C chip samples to several technology companies and started ordering. Reuters, however, could not be confirmed which companies would initially produce 5C.
Earlier, a source said that China's semiconductor manufacturing international corporation (SMIC) is creating some of the main components using their N +2 Sevenometer process technology, though their chip production rate is low.
A source and a person concerned said that the semiconductor used in some of Huawei GPUs was created by the TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) for China's SOPHGO company. The US Commerce Department is also investigating the matter. Because, a chip created by TSMC was found in the 3B processor.
Lennart Hyem, a researcher at Rand's Technology and Security and Policy Center in Virginia's Arlington, is monitoring China's AI development. According to him, TSMC has produced about 1 lakh chips compatible with the design ordered in recent years.
However, Huawei again strongly said that they did not use TSMC -made softo chip. Sigo did not respond to Reuters' request. The TSMC said they followed the rules and did not provide Huawei any chip from mid -2021.
