BNP standing committee member Salauddin Ahmed said the Awami League should be brought to justice for genocide and crimes against humanity in the July movement. He demanded the amendment of the country's prevailing laws and the increase in the manpower of the International Crimes Tribunal.
Salauddin Ahmed told reporters after a meeting with a delegation of custody at the political office of the BNP chairperson in Gulshan on Saturday (April 7th).
“We have demanded that the Awami League be brought under trial,” she said. I told the government in writing. I have made the proposal in front of the people. We want the Awami League to be brought to justice. For this, the law can be enacted in accordance with Article 5 of the Constitution and the law can be amended. If the Awami League's political fate is determined in the judicial process, the people of this country will accept it.
The BNP leader said there was no visible progress in the cases against Sheikh Hasina including Sheikh Hasina in the International Crimes Tribunal. He said the nation expects these cases to be settled quickly. That is why the number and manpower of the International Crimes Tribunal should be increased. Whether the tribunal can be set up at the departmental level if necessary, it can be examined.
On the election, the member of the BNP standing committee said, “We want to consider the passage of the democratic process just as we want reforms and Awami League trials.” The chief adviser for the national elections was assured by December. But it is often seen that some days are being said from December to June. Again from June to December, such a shifting is seen. Different panels have also been noticed to delay the elections from different places. Our chief adviser will definitely give a quick election road map, so that it can be elected by December.
He said that Hefazat Islam had agreed with these demands.
Regarding the discussion at the meeting, Salauddin Ahmed said that the exact number of brutal torture and killings that was carried out on Hefazat -e -Islam in Motijheel was not yet determined. A case has been filed in court seeking justice for the massacre. Hefazat -e -Islam has demanded the trial of the case quickly. We agree with them too.
He said that during the last fascist government of Bangladesh, numerous false cases have been filed on the scholars. Have been jailed and unlimited torture. We would like to withdraw all the false cases filed against them.
The meeting began at 9am on Saturday night and ended at 9pm. The BNP was chaired by the BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed was present.
Hefazat Secretary General Maulana Sajidur Rahman was present among the other leaders, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Quader, Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Maulana Mohiuddin Rabbani, Maulana Bahauddin Zakaria, Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabad, Mufti Monir Hossain Kasemi.
