Three people of the same family have committed suicide in Mysuru district after losing huge amounts of money in online gambling. The tragic incident took place on Monday night and Tuesday. The deceased were Josh Anthony, his brother Jobi Antony and Zobi's wife Sharmila.
Police said Jobi Antony and Sharmila lost a lot of money for the IPL cricket match and online bet. As a result, the debates were pressing repeatedly asking for money back to the family.
In this situation, Josh Antony committed suicide by hanging on his neck on Monday night. Before he died, he recorded a video and complained that his brother Zobby and brother Sharmila had borrowed in the name of their sister by cheating.
In the video, Josh said, 'I don't have my sister's husband. However, Zobby and his wife cheated on their sister's name. Jobi and Sharmila are responsible for my death. They should be severely punished. '
Jobs and Sharmila also committed suicide by hanging on the neck on Tuesday after learning about Josh's death. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
It is to be noted that the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act was enacted to ban online gambling and bet during the BJP government in the state of Karnataka. However, the High Court dismissed the law in 2022.
Earlier, former state speaker and Congress leader Ramesh Kumar called for strict action against the growing bet in the assembly session.
