Elon Musk slammed US President Donald Trump shortly after the White House announced a massive AI infrastructure investment.
Musk wrote on his own social media, “They don't really have that much money. Soft Bank has less than $10 billion in cash. I have learned this from reliable sources.'
Earlier, Trump said that under the new project, a new company called 'Stargate' will be formed to develop artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States. Leaders from SoftBank, OpenAI and Oracle attended the announcement with Trump.
The project will start with an initial investment of $100 billion and plans to increase it to $500 billion in the future.
However, Elon Musk strongly criticized this plan. It's Musk's direct criticism of an important White House project, CNN reported Wednesday.
Musk has been working closely with Trump's new administration in its early days. Notably, Musk was also in the Oval Office on Tuesday when Trump pardoned Ross William Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road dark web marketplace.
Musk said he hired a top executive at SpaceX and X, which he owns, to secure the release of those guilty of the Capitol Hill riots after Trump announced the amnesty.
But despite such closeness, this criticism of Musk is not at all unexpected. Because he continues to sue OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman. Musk complained that OpenAI had strayed from its original non-profit mission and opted for subscriptions to use its advanced technology.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that although the investment has been announced, the companies involved in the Stargate project have not yet disclosed their financing methods. But even if they don't have that much money immediately, it may be possible to move the project forward by raising debt or bringing in new investors.
SoftBank and OpenAI did not comment on the matter.
