Indian-origin Sriram Krishnan has been appointed as the senior policy advisor on artificial intelligence (AI) in the new US administration. This announcement was made by the newly elected President Donald Trump in a post on the social media 'Truth Social'.
Sriram Krishnan has worked as an IT specialist for a long time and currently runs a company himself. “Krishnan will further America's artificial intelligence leadership and help develop and coordinate government AI policy,” Trump said of his new role.
He will work with David Sachs in the Trump administration in the White House. Trump has also decided to place Sachs in a key role in America's artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency policy.
Krishnan said, 'It is an honor to serve the country and continue America's leadership in artificial intelligence.' He thanked Donald Trump for giving this opportunity.
Sriram Krishnan was born in Chennai, India. He completed his BTech in Information Technology from SRM Engineering College, Katthankulathur, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Sriram immigrated to the United States in 2005 at the age of 21. His father worked in insurance and his mother was a homemaker.
Krishnan is an entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Previously led product teams at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook, and Snapchat. He and his wife Arthi Ramamurthy gained more recognition as the directors of the podcast 'The Arthi and Sriram Show' (then known as 'Good Time Show') in 2021.
Krishnan has a close relationship with billionaire Elon Musk. He helped restructure the company after Musk's acquisition of Twitter (now X) in 2022. Musk currently co-leads the 'Government Efficiency' department. It is a policy group that recommends changes in government structure and cost-effective measures for federal spending.
In February 2021, Krishnan was appointed as a general partner at A16Z Firm and in 2023 was selected to head the firm's London office, its first international office. He left the post at the end of November.
