Barcelona finished without a win for the second time in three games in La Liga. The number one team in the league drew 2-2 at Real Betis on Saturday.
But Barcelona was ahead until the appointed time. Substitute Asane Diao scored in stoppage time to break their chest. Manuel Pellegrini marked his 500th La Liga match as coach.
Barca took the lead in the 39th minute at Betis. Robert Lewandowski's perfect finish from Lamin Yamal. The Polish striker scored his 16th league goal of the season.
Betis were desperate for a goal after the break. Giovanni Lu Celso equalized from the penalty spot in the 68th minute.
But Yamal once again excelled to put the Catalan giants ahead. With his assist, substitute Feran Torres rattled the net in the 82nd minute.
Barca was on the verge of leaving the field with a win. But Diao's backheel flick in the 94th minute gave Betis the lead at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.
Barca is at the top with 38 points in 17 matches. But Real Madrid (33), who have played two games less, are just five points behind, leaving them in a tizzy.
