The Chinese embassy issued a warning on Thursday in the wake of growing insecurity in Syria. The embassy has advised Chinese citizens staying in Syria to move to China or elsewhere as soon as possible.
Chinese nationals can leave the country via commercial flights that are still operating or using land border ports, the embassy said. But those planning to travel to Syria, or who have decided not to leave certain areas of Syria, may face serious security risks and the effectiveness of assistance may be disrupted, the embassy warned.
The central city of Hama was captured by forces led by the Syrian rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham on Thursday. A few days before, they captured the commercial center of the country, Aleppo.
Recent clashes in Hama and other areas have heightened tensions between Syrian government forces and rebel groups. Hayata Tahrir al-Sham now controls parts of the country's northwest, making the conflict serious.
