The Indian army commanders at Fort William in Kolkata could not specify whether the freedom fighters of Bangladesh, their families and army officers would be present on Victory Day. At the press conference on Friday (December 6), Major General of General Staff of Fort William Mohit Seth said only one word, which will be announced later.
Every year many freedom fighters, their families and current army chiefs from Bangladesh attend. The Victory Day ceremony took another dimension in the presence of army and army chiefs of the two countries. But the situation in Bangladesh and the recent sour-sweet relations with India are starting to disrupt that rhythm, the diplomatic circles think.
According to Fort William sources, no green signal has come from the Indian Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of External Affairs and Defense in this regard. Even the government of Bangladesh did not reply. So the army commanders are almost sure that the freedom fighters of Bangladesh will not come on Victory Day this time.
The Victory Day celebration is entering its 53rd year. Victory Day is celebrated for at least 3-4 days every year. But, it is known that all the programs will start and end only on December 16 this year.
