After the meeting, he said these things in response to the questions of the journalists at the Yamuna gate. The meeting started at six in the evening and lasted for more than an hour.
The Amir of Jamaat said, 'The law and order situation of the country was discussed. The recent events of the country were discussed. We have agreed in these discussions that the country should be taken forward with all the people of the country. Those involved in activities against the interest of the country must be brought under the law. For this, it is necessary to build national unity irrespective of caste and party affiliation. There will be disagreements, but for the sake of national interest, I call upon the countrymen to agree.
BNP has talked about national unity and has expressed concern – do you agree on this? – Shafiqur Rahman said, 'National unity has definitely come up. We have discussed the concerns. That concern is not in the sense that the country seems to have gone to hell. The point is, we have to identify who is disrupting the peace and order in our country and unitedly confront the means of national unity.'
Amir of Jamaat said, 'I have spoken to the chief advisor about the current situation in the country. In the coming days, there were discussions on how the country could move towards elections through a process of peace and order. All these issues have been discussed in the country, how to achieve national unity regardless of caste, religion and caste, how to speed up the administration.
Asked whether there was any discussion about the election, the top leader of Jamaat said, 'There was no discussion about the election today. But as we have said before, we have already demanded to hold elections soon after certain reforms are completed.'

In a press conference organized at Foreign Service Academy regarding the meeting, Interim Government Advisor Mahfuz Alam said, 'We have received statements from both parties (BNP-Jamaat) about national unity. In order to protect the integrity and sovereignty of Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor asked the political parties for their cooperation on how to deal with the situation and prevent any communal tension and extremism.
Mahfuz Alam also said, 'Both parties have given him (Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus) suggestions on what can be done to be more positive. At the same time, they expressed their position to cooperate with the government as before. He said, 'I am talking to all the stakeholders so that any kind of communal disorder, any other kind of madness is not created in Bangladesh in the coming days.'
When asked about the proposal given by the political party to the chief adviser, Mahfuz Alam said, 'Their proposal is to sit with the stakeholders to remove the communication gap. Trying to communicate with minority and majority religious leadership. I will contact you in the next day. Everyone has suggested that national unity and sovereignty of Bangladesh can be protected. In this case, everyone is sincere.'
