'Hold elections in a short time, the elected representatives will reform the country'

BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed commented that the leaders of the anti-discrimination movement do not believe in building a democratic society. He said, within a short period of time, the election commission will be reformed and elections will be held. The elected representatives will reform the country.

He made this comment in a discussion meeting titled 'November 7 aspirations and today's political context' at Nasrul Hamid Hall of Dhaka Reports Unity on Monday (November 11).

Criticizing the speech of anti-discrimination movement coordinator Sarjis Alam, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, “Is voting so simple?” Voting is a symbol of democracy. I fought the liberation war in 1971 for votes. The fight of 24 was for the establishment of freedom of speech and voting rights. Elections are the main component of democracy. And they say, 'the country did not become independent for elections'. So, why the war, so much sacrifice? Is the vote so ridiculous? That is, they (anti-discrimination movement) do not believe in building a democratic society. They may think that the country will be fixed if two processions are held, their gurus may teach them.

He said, Dr. An interim government headed by Yunus. The main function of this government is to transfer power to the elected government through a fair election. We see 'He who goes to Lanka becomes Ravana'. They want to stay in power for 20 years. Various people from the Awami family have already entered the advisory positions of the government. Students are equal to our children, looking at their activities, it seems that they made the country free, and no one gave their lives. Thousands of leaders and activists of opposition parties including BNP gave their lives, who will do their calculations?

This member of the BNP Standing Committee said, I support the Yunus government and will continue to do so in the future. Don't try to stay in power forever. Don't try to stay in power for 10-20 years. Those who were the supporters of Awami League, ate halwa bread for 16 years, took advantage, they are still in good health, they should be removed. This is not only the responsibility of the interim government, but also the responsibility of the political parties.

BNP Chairperson Adviser Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Muktijoddha Party President Istiaq Aziz Ulfat, General Secretary Sadek Khan and others were also present.
