Interior Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that most of the polling stations for the 13th National Assembly elections are risky due to security considerations. He said that the total number of polling stations in the upcoming National Assembly elections is 42 thousand 761. Among them, 8 thousand 780 more important polling stations, 16 thousand 548 important polling stations and 17 thousand 433 general polling stations. Security critical and critical centers have been identified as vulnerable, accounting for about 59 percent of the total.
The Home Affairs Advisor gave this information at the press conference after the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee meeting at the Secretariat on Monday. He said that additional security measures will be taken in risky polling stations, policemen will use body worn cameras in these centers and CC cameras will be installed in each polling station.
The adviser said that around 9 lakh members of law and order forces will be deployed to ensure overall security in the elections. He said that 1 lakh members of Bangladesh Army, 5 thousand of Navy, 3 thousand 730 of Air Force, 1 lakh 49 thousand 443 of Police, 5 lakh 76 thousand 314 of Ansar and Village Defense Force, 37 thousand 453 of Border Guard Bangladesh, 3 thousand 585 of Coast Guard, 7 thousand 700 of RAB and 13 thousand 390 of Fire Service as support service will perform their duty in the election.
Thirteenth national parliament election and referendum will be held on February 12. On this occasion, the members of the law and order forces will perform election-focused duties for a total of seven days from February 8 to 14, said the Home Advisor.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, a law and order coordination cell will be formed with police and Ansar-VDP as well as armed forces, BGB, Coast Guard and RAB. This coordination cell will have one representative from each law enforcement agency.
