A buffalo, which went viral as ‘Donald Trump’ before Eid-ul-Azha in Bangladesh, is now in government custody. It is said that the buffalo is not being sacrificed on Eid.
This albino buffalo is widely discussed in the Qurbani animal market during Eid-ul-Azha this year. People’s interest in the buffalo has been seen in various domestic and foreign media including social media.
Recently, the owner of the animal took the buffalo from the farm to his home through various arrangements.
But a day before Eid, it was learned that the government has planned to save the buffalo instead of sacrificing it. And Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed himself played a role behind this decision.
On the instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the police took the buffalo from its owner’s house into their custody on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told BBC Bengal that he bought this buffalo named Donald Trump himself. He says that the government has a plan to save this rare species of buffalo.
He told BBC Bangla, “The buffalo that went viral named Donald Trump is a rare breed. It went viral on social media before Qurbani Eid. I bought the buffalo thinking that there might be chaos during Qurbani. It is now in the farm, and may be kept in the zoo later.”

Decision not to sacrifice
Ziauddin Mridha, the owner of Rabeya Agro Farm in Paikpara, Narayanganj city, told BBC Bangla earlier that his younger brother Mahish named the buffalo ‘Donald Trump’ after looking at his hair and eye color. A video was made about the farm where this buffalo was also. Ever since the video was released, the buffalo has gone viral on social media.
Special reports on the buffalo were published in the international press, which brought it global recognition.
Fariduzzaman, a resident of Jinjira area of Keraniganj, bought the buffalo just after Eid. Three days ago, he took the buffalo to his house through various arrangements.
According to the police, the owner of the buffalo was contacted on Wednesday afternoon on the special instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Later the animal was taken into police custody from Jinjira in Keraniganj.
According to the police, the owner agreed to bring the buffalo to the police station after being told about the government’s instructions.

Officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Sajedur Rahman said that the buffalo was rescued from Keraniganj after receiving instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Chief of Police.
He told BBC Bangla, “We were taken from here to Keraniganj on Monday. Initially, we were told to bring it back to Narayanganj. Later, the decision was changed. Perhaps the buffalo can be kept in the zoo.”
It is known that after rescue, the buffalo was taken to Keraniganj police station. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told BBC Bengal about saving the animal in a farm from there.
The Home Minister said that he bought the buffalo himself. He says, plans are being made to conserve the buffalo as it is a rare species.
Apart from this, the fact that there should be no confusion about the buffalo sacrifice, which has gone viral on social media, has also been given importance in this regard.
Incidentally, Ziauddin Mridha, the owner of Rabeya Agro Farm, told BBC Bangla that they collected this albino buffalo from a market in Rajshahi about 10 months ago. He also said that there are six more albino buffaloes in their farm.
