Microblogging platform BlueSky is taking over Mark Zuckerberg's Threads. BlueSky's browser version surpassed Threads in total activity a few weeks ago. On the other hand, the app has 35 lakh daily active users. Which is only one and a half times less than threads. But at the beginning of this month, Threads had 5 times more users than Bluesky.
Currently BlueSky has more than 2.21 million total users. And as of last September, Threads had a total of 20 million users.
According to market intelligence firm SimilarWeb, BlueSky competes with Threads in terms of daily active users. BlueSky's app is currently the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store in the US and UK. Next are threads.
Recently, various celebrities, such as pop singer Lizzo, Taskmaster's Greg Davis, Ben Stiller, Jamie DeCurtis and Patton Oswalt, among others, have announced to join BlueSky.
Although the Meta platform is quite old, social media users are more interested in using BlueSky than their Threads. It is said that the reason for this is that there is less opportunity to discuss political issues in threads. There is no opportunity to speak for yourself.
Critics believe that Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) effort to favor Donald Trump in the US presidential election has called into question its position as a platform for political and cultural discussion.
Interest in using BlueSky increased after the US presidential election on November 5. In a report on Similar Web, the Financial Times reported that BlueSky's user base had increased by 300 percent since Election Day. Journalists, academics and companies are quickly moving from Elon Musk's X to BlueSky and BlueSky is becoming their platform of choice.
Due to Elon Musk's political relationship with Donald Trump, many are interested in using BlueSky instead of X. Critic Max Reed said BlueSky is now a platform for politically active people. It was with the help of these people that erstwhile Twitter gained popularity from the beginning.
However, BlueSky is still in the experimental stage. It has some drawbacks: site down, technical problems and fraudulent activities. As the number of users on BlueSky is increasing rapidly, customers want quick resolution of such issues.
BlueSky was launched in 2021 by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. Of course, he is no longer in Bluesky. BlueSky is currently managed and principally owned by CEO Jay Graeber. It operates as a United States public benefit corporation.
