BNP has taken some plans to commemorate the sacrifice of all the martyrs of the July uprising. However, due to the restrictions of the Election Commission (EC), the chairman of the party, Tariq Rahman, could not present it now. He said, ‘BNP has taken some plans in the coming days to remember the sacrifice of all the martyrs. However, due to the Election Commission, I may not be able to present that plan in detail at this event today.’
He said this at the meeting with the families of the victims of disappearance, murder and torture on Saturday. The event was jointly organized by ‘Mayer Dak’ and ‘Amra BNP Parivar’ at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital.
Criticizing some of the roles of the EC, Tariq Rahman said, ‘It is difficult to say that we have seen some controversial roles or controversial positions of the Election Commission recently. However, as a responsible political party, we want to show patience.
BNP Chairman Tariq Rahman has alleged that controversies are being created to obstruct the path of democracy. He urged everyone to be vigilant in this regard with tolerance. In the speech of the chief guest, Tarek Rahman said, ‘The opportunity to form a humane state that is responsible for the people has come before us. Some are trying to create a situation by saying different things, where the path of this democracy that has been created is blocked. We are patient, we are vigilant so that nothing disturbs our democratic journey.’
Referring to the sacrifices and contributions of party leaders and workers on the streets, the BNP chairman said, ‘BNP workers have not assumed secret or latent guises in the name of strategy. I believe, strongly believe, that the leaders and workers of the party can play such an uncompromising role against injustice, no one can suppress this party by carrying out conspiracy or propaganda against that party.’
The BNP Chairman said, ‘For more than a century and a half, the intensity of the anti-fascist movement may have calmed down a bit or the movement may have peaked and after many years of disappearances-murders, abductions, false cases, harassment-torture, not a single leader-worker of the BNP has left the streets. A brother of the same family has gone missing and another brother has gone and stood in his place with an oath to intensify the agitation on the streets the next day.’
Tributes were paid to late former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the event. Relatives of families who were victims of disappearances, murders and torture during the previous government broke down in tears expressing their sense of loss. BNP Chairman was touched by their feelings. At this time, he is seen repeatedly wiping his eyes. During the speech, Tariq Rahman said to the relatives of the victims of disappearances, murders and tortures, “You who have come here with a hundred hardships, the only way for these people to get justice according to the laws of the country is that a democratic government must be established in Bangladesh in the coming days.” A government that works to fulfill the aspirations of the people, a government that does justice to those who have been oppressed, oppressed.’
Pointing out the importance of establishing a democratic government in the future to ensure the justice of all the injustices of the past, Tariq Rahman said, “If we miss the opportunity to form a responsible democratic state and government – then our martyrs of the democratic movement will be oppressed, their sacrifice will be dishonored, those who were martyred in 1971 to liberate this country, those who were martyred in the movement against the dictatorship of 90” In the past 16 years, those who have been missing and martyred, tortured and crippled in various ways, ‘thousands of people who were martyred in the movement of August 5, 24-thousands of people who were crippled in various ways… If justice for each and every injustice is to be established-then Bangladesh needs a democratic government in the coming days.’
Tariq Rahman also said, ‘If our party is able to form a government with the support of the people of Bangladesh, we will name important roads in the state or the country or various important government buildings in the name of the martyrs – so that generations after generations can remember these martyrs with pride.
