Jamaat-e-Islami emir and opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman has raised such a demand that balance should be brought to power by fundamental reforms. He made this demand in his opening speech at the Jamaat’s Central Majlis Shura session at Al Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar of the capital on Friday.
Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘fundamental reforms must be done. Power must be balanced, so that no one becomes a great fascist. This change or reform is essential to guarantee that no one can play with people’s wealth and dignity.
Jamaat Amir said, ‘Our fight will be against all injustice and evil forces. New, old fascism do not understand, wherever fascism there is resistance, there will be protest. Our fight against fascism will continue.’
On February 12 this year, a referendum was held to form the Sanskar Parishad for general elections and reforms, he said, “even if the people cast two votes on the same day, one vote was evaluated.” Another was thrown away. But none of them are unimportant.’
The opposition leader said, ‘The people wanted a change in the style of governance that made the rulers fascist in the past. Comprehensive reforms are essential for this change. After months of dialogue, 31 important political parties came together in the National Consensus Commission and drafted the July Charter. The referendum was held on that basis. Sorry! The current ruling party ignored the verdict of nearly 70% of the people. As a result, no change came.’
The government has already ignored all the basic issues – Shafiqur Rahman commented, “They (the government) do not want an independent judiciary, an independent anti-corruption commission, an independent human rights commission, an independent missing persons commission and an independent election commission.” As a result, the places that led to fascism remained where they were.’
Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘People today are not only disappointed, but also angry. Why not evaluate their votes? Before the election, the current government and opposition parties said, “We accept the referendum, say yes in your referendum.” He asked why about 70% of the votes of those who responded to this call would be ignored.
The opposition leader said, “Even if the ruling party ignores the verdict of the people, we will not ignore the opposition party.” For this I have come to the people with this matter. Already, a series of programs have been conducted by the 11-party unity. This demand is not for any party, but for the people. This verdict has been given by the people, this verdict must be implemented in the interest of the people.
The event was also attended by Naib Amir ATM Azharul Islam, Professor Mujibur Rahman, ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and others.
