Their most important task is to counter any US moves against China and Russia. Sergei Shoigu, a close aide of Russian President Vladimir Putin, told China's foreign minister on Tuesday (November 12). British news agency Reuters reported this.
Newly elected US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tough tariffs on China and other countries. The whole issue could lead to a trade war. The US views China as its biggest competitor and Russia as its biggest threat.
Putin regularly refers to China as an ally. He and Xi Jinping pledged to announce a new partnership in May. To them, the United States is a Cold War aggressor responsible for global chaos.
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing that a strong relationship between Moscow and Beijing is necessary for stability in the world.
Shaigu said that the United States and its allies are trying to isolate Russia and China. Countering their efforts is the most important task.
There was no immediate response from the US on his comments.
China's top diplomat Wang Yi said China and Russia need to be united in an increasingly challenging and complex world system.
He said, the international situation is getting complicated day by day. In the current global situation, it is important for China and Russia to maintain solidarity and coordination among themselves to protect common interests.
China said Wang and Shigu had extensive and in-depth discussions on strategic security issues of the two countries. They also exchanged views on development of strategic mutual trust.
