Republican Representative Elise Stefanik has been nominated by Donald Trump to be the United States Ambassador to the United Nations after being re-elected as US President. This information was given in a statement sent to the British news agency Reuters on Monday (November 11).
In a statement, Trump said, “I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik as United States Ambassador to the United Nations.” Ellis is an incredibly strong, brave and talented 'America First' fighter.
Representative-elect from New York and chair of the House Republican Conference, Stefanik is known to be a close ally of Trump. Stefanik was not available for comment.
On Saturday, Trump said he has no plans to include former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his administration. Haley served as the US ambassador to the United Nations under the previous Trump administration. He supported Trump in the final election, although he was a rival and a vocal critic of Trump in the primaries.
Trump is currently negotiating with various potential candidates for his administration. The meeting will continue till January 20 before his swearing-in.
Reuters reported on Friday that Trump had met with investor Scott Besant as a potential Treasury Secretary.
