The opposition Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged that the people of the country are constantly traveling with the risk of death, but there is no effective initiative or accountability in the government. Party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar made this complaint in a statement sent to the media on Sunday.
In a statement, Mia Golam Parwar said, ’12 people were killed and at least 10 others were injured in a horrific train-bus collision in Comilla on March 22 at 3 pm. People are constantly traveling with the risk of death, but there is no effective initiative or accountability in this regard in the government. This situation can never be accepted in a civilized state. I am deeply saddened and concerned about this casualty.’
The secretary of Jamaat also said, “The loss of lives of many people in various parts of the country in railway and road accidents proves that there is extreme anarchy and mismanagement in the transport sector of the country.” He blamed Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam for this situation. He further said, ‘due to his gross negligence, inefficiency and irresponsibility, the common man today is deprived of the minimum assurance of safe movement.’
Parwar commented that the relevant agencies of the government have completely failed to take any effective steps to ensure safety on roads and railways. He said, “Lack of regular monitoring, unfit vehicles, poor traffic management and lack of security at railway crossings all have created a dire situation.”
The Secretary General of Jamaat strongly demanded that the real culprits be immediately brought under the law by conducting a fair investigation into all the recent accidents including the train-bus collision in Comilla. In addition, he called for ensuring modern safety systems on roads and railways, strict supervision and exemplary punishment against those responsible to prevent such accidents in the future.
Mia Golam Parwar said, “This government, which has failed to protect the lives of the people, must take immediate effective action, otherwise the people of the country will give a proper answer.”
