'Ongoing reforms should be accelerated, so that no one can raise questions'

The ongoing reform process should be speeded up so that no one can raise questions about the reform process, said Mahmudur Rahman Manna, President of Nagrik Oikya.

He said these things in an open discussion titled 'Structural Reform of Electoral System' organized by the Gana Shakti Sabha at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of National Press Club on Sunday (January 12).

Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that progressive and advanced reform programs in the state are the demand of time. Those who are influencing the bureaucracy now will control the bureaucracy in elections.

He said, we should not be disappointed. You have to live with the hope of the future. Political parties should be more conscious and responsible. Everyone has to give himself up in his own place. We have to remember – now the fight is for knowledge, the fight is for intellect.

Manna said, why can't people trust the political parties? Because you have seen the past? Is it because you still see the impression of the past? Not that there are signs of anything new—so that I can be optimistic. No, they won't do that, they can do better. Nothing like that is visible. But Dr. Yunus is supported by people, yet no one opposes him. That's the only reason, people think this guy doesn't belong, he doesn't have any tricks. There is no such thing as he is running a very good country, he is making good economic progress, he has made people's lives beautiful and easy. But still people are supporting him.

The former VP of Daksu said, I think there is still time. Dr. Yunus said – we have to be united on two or three main issues. Reforms, election system reforms, two or three such issues… If these are the issues, we can go to an election. And definitely if we want we can go (to elections) within this year. I have no problem. Six months or next year, I have no problem. It is not like I will suffer much because I did not get power within six months. And there is no guarantee that I will get power within six months. Those who receive it may be upset. I will tell them, if the change did not happen, they would have lived for four years and would have been in trouble. Rather see how much the country can be taken in a positive direction from six months.

He said that this year's achievements will be sustained as much as possible. And what he could not do could become uncertain.
